Team Stressman in collaboration with Vinje Industri AS was engaged into the challenging project of dismantling the Varodd Bridge from the design of the equipment employed for the deconstructing activities until the analysis of the lifting operations to remove sections of the bridge.
The goal of the project was to analyze and validate the components designed and procedures applied to successfully dismantling the Varodd Bridge. Detailed FEA analysis in ANSYS was carried out during the whole project to determine the localized stresses in the structures developed, such as the skid system used for mobilization of bridge’s parts as well as the bolts employed for lifting the upper tower sections of the bridge.
Safety and reliability were key along the project development to achieve our goal. For that reason, all the models developed were carefully evaluated considering the appropriate design codes such as DNV GL-ST-N001 to ensure the high-quality level of our work.
